The following is an excerpt from the article.
Blaine Hilton of Portage did something not all people have the courage to do. Hilton left school his sophomore year to focus on starting his own business. At age 16 he took the G.E.D. He continued to teach himself about programming and expanded his knowledge base by reading. Although he wouldn't call it a success just yet, his company Blaine's Business Services, Inc. is continueing to grow and become recognized.
Hilton, now 21, recently received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award during the 2006 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards Luncheon held at the Radisson Star Plaza. The event, which recognized seven businesses, was sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center.
"It was a little nerve racking because you don't know whether you're going to make it or not," he said.
Hilton said the main objective of Blaine's Business Services, Inc. is working with small businesses and getting them established with a website. It focuses on creating websites that will make the client money. He explained some websites can have content but are not visually appealing, while others might have great design elements but weak content.
"We want to see how we can best target the business's particular audience," he said. "We want to do what is best for them."
A few websites Blaine's Business Services, Inc. has developed include www.pamrandle.com and www.auntiesuesdogclothes.com. It can also, however, help businesses with logos, mascot creation and print materials such as postcards and brochures. Being capable of helping businesses in a multitude of tasks has a lot to do with the skills of your staff according to Hilton.
"You have to get people that fit together like a puzzle," he said. "As a firm we're able to come together and help a business with all their needs."
